Gone Fishing…

JUNE 2019 – Roofing and Exterior Products Services (REPS) of Ohio President Bill Spencer and Roofing Sales Manager Duane Zitkovic invited Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) Project Manager Paul Novak, Superintendent Herschel Morrison, Superintendent Brian Covington, and East Coast Metal Systems (ECMS) Sheet Metal Division Manager Ed Gavorcik to a fishing trip on Lake Erie.

The fishing trip was a way for the three companies to network and build better and stronger relationships with each other away from the office. The group was even able to catch their full limit of fish!

Thanks again to Bill and Duane for inviting us to a day out on the lake!

Intern Involvement

JUNE 2019 – East Coast Metal Systems (ECMS) Administrative Intern Rebekah Horsky and  Production Intern Mason Anderson, who are shadowing Production Manager Stephen Khoo, put together a presentation about basic sheet metal flashing for the rest of the ECMS interns to demonstrate what they have learned.

The importance of the presentation was that it served as a learning experience for all interns and prepared them to visit jobsites. At their first jobsite, Field Engineer Kyle Sowinski was able to teach them about our 3D laser scanning capabilities while they experienced it first-hand.

“We strive to provide our interns with the best possible experience throughout their time with us help them learn about the many opportunities that the construction industry has to offer,” said Kyle.

Rock the Runway

MAY 2019 – Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) Project Manager James Hurley and East Coast Metal Systems Production Manager Stephen Khoo volunteered as ‘models’ for the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) Annual Rock the Runway Fashion Show and Fundraiser in Wheeling, WV.

All proceeds from the event went to the YWCA Domestic Violence Education Program, which offers direct support services to victims of domestic violence.

ECMS Assistant Project Manager Ellen Sommer, Project Manager Sam Harris, Pre-Construction Coordinator Tiffany Wildern, and KRSM President and CEO Jim Hurley attended the event to show their support and cheer on their fellow teammates!

Weekly Training Sessions

MAY 2019 – East Coast Metal Systems (ECMS) held a specification overview training session for new interns as well as current employees, which was lead by Engineering Manager John Hyde and Pre-Construction Coordinator Tiffany Wildern.

The training consisted of learning the purpose of a spec, why they are important to ECMS, the structure and division of a spec, and an example breakdown of a current job in production spec. Additional trainings will be held on a weekly basis covering all aspects of the business.

From drawings to submittals, the ECMS team will follow the structure of the job from invitation to bid and fabrication. Following this process will allow for current employees, new hires, and interns to gain a better understanding of what we do, how we do it, and why we do it.

“Steve Kerr, John Hyde, and I wanted to implement a training program that would not only train our interns about the process ECMS follows and why, but also to offer continuing education for current employees,” said Tiffany. “Offering these training sessions will allow knowledge to be shared and our business to grow and develop as a leader in the metal industry.”

Project Spotlight: Omni Hotel

APRIL 2019 – East Coast Metal Systems (ECMS) would like to highlight a recently-completed, multi-million dollar project. The Omni Hotel in Louisville, Kentucky, is now the tallest and most luxurious hotel in the city.

Construction for this 30-story skyscraper began in March of 2017 and was officially completed by March of 2018. ECMS fabricated 23,000 square feet of metal composite panels in both custom Graphite Grey Mica and Platinum finishes using the EC-200 Dry Joint Rainscreen System™ as well as custom extruded aluminum angles, tees, and tubes finished to match the panels.

“Our metal fabrication shop is full of skilled workers who care about the quality of our products,” said ECMS Engineering Manager John Hyde. “When you look at a structure like this, it’s amazing to see their work on the completed project.”

In addition, Kalkreuth Roofing and Sheet Metal (KRSM) installed 90,000 square feet of PVC roofing and 110,000 square feet of decorative ballast.

“Our crews did a great job on this project,” said Project Manager Joe Minor. “When we work on any project, especially of this size and location in a busy city center, we make every effort to coordinate well with other trades and cause as little disruption to the surrounding businesses as possible.”

MGA Glass Expo

APRIL 2019- East Coast Metal Systems (ECMS) Director of Operations Steve Kerr and Estimator DJ Hores attended the annual Mid-Atlantic Glass Association (MGA) Glass Expo at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland.

The event took place from 2-8:30pm, and Steve and DJ had a booth setup to network, discuss ECMS products and services, and help potential or current customers with any of their metal needs.

“By attending these events, we are educating more people about who we are and what we do,” said Steve. “This is ultimately growing the ECMS brand and giving us more traction throughout the metal industry.”
